NaNoWriMo Day 18 - this is so much easier than coming up with interesting song lyric subjects

Todays' NaNoWriMo was written entirely while listening to Muse's 'Supermassive Black Hole' and AFI's 'Miss Murder' on repeat. Just so you know.

LOOK DON'T JUDGE ME.

I had a sort of freak-out, oh-crap-this-is-a-terrible-pretense-of-a-book moment earlier this evening, when I realized that I had finished half of what I wanted to accomplish in chapter 9...but chapter 9 had all of 600 words.

However, when I finally started writing (after several hours of panic-induced procrastination), I realized that the other 'half' of the chapter was regarding my subplot, which is about college theater craziness. And I can write a LOT about college theater craziness.

Let me also take this moment to pimp out something that a NaNoer mentioned on the forums and that I used to write the entirety of tonight's NaNo production in about an hour and a half. I highly, highly recommend it if you ever need to write a draft of something quickly and/or are having trouble motivating yourself to write or concentrating.

My friends, I give you Write or Die.

The premise: put in how many words you want to write, and in what timeframe. Then hit 'write' and you'll be brought to a screen with a text box. The time counts down and wordcount is updated as you write. Also, if you stop typing for more than a few seconds, there are consequences - from a pop-up reminder (gentle) to your words actually being deleted (kamikaze). I am not totally sure if the 'punishments' work on Safari, but it really doesn't matter; the combination of the blank text-entry screen, the timer, the word count, the limited timeframe and goal are wonderful for pushing you to actually write.

I met my personal goal for tonight (after falling asleep after less than 1,000 words again last night). Yay!

Current word count: 34,112

And now, bed at last.
