Little bit of music babbling....
So it is official--I love vocal harmonies. LOVE them. This is probably why I dislike Sonic Youth so much, as they have a distinct lack of both harmony (downright dissonance, to be frank) and vocals.
Anyway, about music....I made a mixed cd/playlist. At the beginning of the semester. Yeah, never got around to posting it. SO, it's now the 'better late than never' playlist. Track listing with explanations are below--anyone who reads this LJ can get a copy if they want! Those of you on the Colgate campus, especially those with iPods, might want to get it directly from my computer as I don't have a whole lot of blank CDs around. Those of you not currently at the 'Gate email me your address or something and I can get you a copy.
So, here is the Better Late Than Never! playlist.
A Million Ways by OK Go So most of my friends have already heard of OK Go, although I don't know how many of you have heard their new album--this is one of my favorite songs from it.
Blinded By The Light by The Streets One of two rap-like songs! Shock! The Streets is this crazy British rap group, sort of, who talk about the British gangster scene. It just always reminds me of Snatch somehow...
The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (With All Your Power) by The Flaming Lips It sounds so cheerful, but the words are so cynical; it's an interesting effect.
Narc by Interpol I just love this song and must listen to more Interpol.
Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth by The Dandy Warhols Early Dandy Warhols, and it's obvious, but I like it anyway. How can you resist a chorus like "I never thought you'd be a junkie because heroin is so passe'?
All For Swinging You Around by The New Pornographers Like many songs from this mix, came from my sister. Interesting story about The New Pornographers--they have 12 or 13 people in their band, but not every person comes to every concert; they just play with whomever shows up. Maybe that's the reason why their harmonies are so good.
Backdrifts (Honeymoon Is Over) by Radiohead I just wanted to put a Radiohead song in *shrugs*
Old School by Danger Doom featuring Talib Kwali Rap song #2. Danger Doom is the closest you can get to geek rap; he does the opening for Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and this song is, in fact, about watching Saturday morning cartoons.
My Alcoholic Friends by The Dresden Dolls I SWEAR I put this on BEFORE we started having huge parties at the townhouse. Anyway....it's a fun song, and everyone should listen to the Dresden Dolls occasionally.
Flowers by Regina Spektor I know nothing about Regina Spektor except that this album is called Soviet Kitsch and that makes me smile.
Come Sail Away by Styx Isn't it just a perfect ending song for a mix?
I should have been asleep two hours ago. Oh well, such is life. Later, all!
P.S. *pokes updated LJ layout* Not a big deal, but don't they ever warn us about these things?
