(no subject)

If I get a good running start, I can write 450 words of fiction in 10 minutes. Yay! Does this mean NaNoWriMo is not a totally crazy idea for me? (No, actually, it is...)

This weekend was less than busy, but involved me actually going places and being sociable, which is a good step. On Saturday evening was the first staff meeting for PortConMaine 2009. Excitement and thrills! It was the first time I had seen the new building that Weekend Anime is in - I really like it! It's basically a residential house split into a few sections; besides WA there's a computer repair store, I believe? The details aren't important; it's a great space.

The meeting wasn't huge - the first meeting of the year never is, I think - but there were many familiar faces and we all started getting psyched for 2009. We're back at the Wyndham! With Bob! (Bob is the hotel guy who was 'in charge of' PCM the previous years we were there. Bob is basically the God of PCM. He is AMAZING). We are also going to have a GIANT TENT (in which staffers will sleep).

I also volunteered to be the sponsorship liaison for '09. Basically I will send out tons of emails and letters and make many phone calls asking various businesses to send us free stuff.

Today was also about the weekly southern Maine pre-NaNo meetup. Once we get into November, it will be an official Write-In and apparently will become super intense; right now we just hang out in Panera Bread with our laptops and surf the NaNo forums and chat about plot or character ideas and event ideas for November. (Also, we eat delicious food; I am semi-addicted to Panera Bread right now.) We also do outlining and random prep stuff; I did a few ten-minute sprints, which is how I came up with the word score above.

Next week is the last weekend before NaNo starts so we'll be having our Kick-Off party...fun times.

Is anyone else on my F-list doing NaNo? We could be writing buddies and have word wars...anyone?

(Also, randomly, I truly love the NaNo forums. Where else can you find threads like "Let's say you were going to hide a body" or "I am really starting to detest my main character"?)

(Also, and totally unrelated to everything else in this post, ZOMG I'm 23! And I'm actually living on my own with a real job and everything...it's almost like I'm an adult? Nah, couldn't be...)

I'm so happy PCM moved back there! I don't know if I'm going to make it (I'm not going to sign up for staff until I know, since I don't want to drop out at the last minute if people are counting on me), but I really want to go and bring Josh to see it.

I desperately want to do NaNoWriMo, since I've only been working this novel out for TWO YEARS and all, but gah. Just, gah. I have pretty much zero time. I may just use it as an excuse to get started (or turn it into National Novel Editing Month and finish Josh's novel >_> He's going to pay some girl from Writer's Group to edit it now, so I feel like an idiot). Also, there is still no WSC. Sigh. I wanted to get it to you while you had time, but that may not happen. I'm stalled on page 2 due to 1. the particular subject matter and 2. extracurricular activities.

OMG! Do I have your new address? I was just typing this and thinking of how one of those activities involves mailing things, and it occurred to me I don't have your current address. Can you email it? Thanks!

If you can, you should absolutely come to PCM. And bring Josh!

I think it'd be awesome if you did NaNo, but the time factor - yeah, it's always an issue. That's why I never did it while I was at Colgate, even though it looked really interesting.

(Are you on AIM/Trillian at all these days? We should chat about where WSC is going - it's been a while...)

For the last week, every time I was online I was working on stuff for the ABA. When I sent the last bit back, I neglected to offer my services for more work >_> So, I think I can be online chatting again tomorrow night.

Also, I need to mail stuff to you ;)

Mail stuff to me? Hmm....sounds intriguing.

I'm going to jump on AIM in a bit; maybe we'll see each other!

I kind of wish I were doing NaNo, except that I know that grad school + NaNo = head esplodie. Therefore, I plan on living vicariously through you for the month of November. Have fun with it, and keep us up to date on the joy and insanity!

[identity profile] amatyultare.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone doing NaNo is a little bit crazy, but attempting NaNo during your first year of grad school would be extra-super-crazy, I admit.

I'll do my best to keep you guys updated!

Wait. A WRITING GROUP? WHAT?

This is my fifth time. I've finished 3. I couldn't do one year because I was in Japan. ;)

I got all of them printed too, from Lulu.com. So I have hard book copies of the books I've written.

HELL YES I'M DOING IT THIS YEAR.

MEETING, WHA?

[identity profile] amatyultare.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
NANO! I writing-buddy-friended you, even though your avatar on the NaNo forums sort of disturbs me (and yet it mesmerizes me, as moving icons often do).

The writing meetings? Yeah, they're fun; really low-key meet-ups at the Panera in Westbrook. During November they're offical Write-Ins, the rest of the year apparently it's just people with laptops (mostly), hanging out. You should come if you can!

This Sunday is the kick-off party at 1 PM, but the usual meeting is 9:30-4:00 (or later...); you can come for as much or little time as you want.

[identity profile] genkioriana.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
So there are Sunday meetings at 9:30 AM in Westbrook? Damn it being Sunday. It's my one day off. >_<

I'll try :)

Sunday at 1 PM. Gotcha ;)

[identity profile] amatyultare.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
That's the problem with being insanely busy :-p

You don't have to stay the whole time! Even if you just come for an hour or two, it's fun.

[identity profile] genkioriana.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'll try. It does sound fun!!

[identity profile] piano1815.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
you'd better be way the hell ahead of the game becuase you're losing out an an ENTIRE WEEKEND in November.

^_^_^_^_^

CAN'T WAIT!!

[identity profile] amatyultare.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'll just bring my laptop and when we all go out to the mall (don't lie, it's INEVITABLE) I will hang out at the food court and type and you guys can bring your purchases to me and show them off. ^_^

All joking aside, it's going to be an AMAZING weekend.
