Girly post ahoy!

Geez, it's been a while since I posted anything about myself and my life, as opposed to random news items or ranting about Twilight. And it's one of those things where the longer it goes, the more I feel the need to include in any sort of 'catch up' post, and the more daunting it becomes. One of these days I need to sit down and write up a bullet-point-list of what's been going on.

Today, however, is not that day. Today I just want to talk about makeup.

My LiveJournal friends who are not currently in the P-town area are probably not aware that I have, in some ways, gone really, really girly. Particularly regarding makeup. In one sense you can blame [livejournal.com profile] bubbleteagirl02, who introduced me to the joys and beauties of MAC Cosmetics. And don't get me wrong, MAC makeup is generally gorgeous. But it's a bit intimidating (they sort of have a I Are Serious Makeup Company For Serious Makeup Artists thing going on, I don't know) and pretty expensive.

And then, in a very real sense, I guess you can blame Twilight. Back sometime in mid to late 2009, [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda mentioned, in a roundup of Twilight goods, these "Twilight Supernatural Face and Body Powders... for an immortal glimmer!". It was from a makeup company she had used in the past, and she laughingly declared that she was definitely going to get samples. She included a link to the company's website, named Aromaleigh. Curious, I checked out their website - and fell in love. Not nearly as pricey than MAC but still good quality! A better color selection! Inexpensive samples so you don't make expensive mistakes! A truly welcoming, almost intimate atmosphere! I was hooked. And I still am.

I love makeup because it's a grown-up box of crayons, with a coloring book that you can always clean off to try again. (I especially love eyeshadow for that very reason, although I am nerving myself up to try some exciting lip colors...we'll see.) And that is almost exactly the attitude of Aromaleigh and its founder/owner. It shows in the company's policies, the products - yeah, I love Aromaleigh.

Unfortunately, I sometimes get a tiny bit grumpy about applying makeup. For one thing, I have pretty much given up on lining my lower lash line in anything but a very light and subtle way. It's a shame because some people can pull off truly stunning all-around-the-eye-color looks. Like this girl (omg I would never have the courage to actually wear that look in public but it is so very very gorgeous). I - cannot. It just doesn't work. I think my eyes are too small.

Another sad-face moment, which is what sparked this post, was when I realized that burgundy and reddish-pink eyeshadow shades don't look good on me. At all. I've been trying them because I love burgundies, and red-pinks just seem like such fun. But I tried one last look tonight, and ended up looking like I was dying of consumption. And also like I hadn't slept in three days. Not a good effect.

Hmm. I guess that was a sort of catch up post after all, in a very specialized way. Also, it's later than I thought and I still need to take this makeup off before bed. So off I go. Night, all!

I tried a brown and it looks like I got punched in the eyes.

So.

Want to trade samples we don't use? I'd totally be for that. ;)

Hahaham, I would stay away from the lower-lid liners, but this is exciting news ^_^ and may just influence your very late Christmas present! lol!!
