we're all perfectly clear on what we're ignoring

Getting that apple-scented candle at Hannaford was such a good idea; my whole room is now engulfed in autumn-scented deliciousness.

It's been a satisfying weekend. Saturday involved tons of fun and a whole lot of hanging out with friends - of course, those two things are practically synonymous. Today was quieter, but I'm pleased with what I accomplished.

The big item on today's to-do list was finishing up a costume - the one I had gotten about 85% completed before PCM but then gave up on. I wanted to wear it to Weekend Anime's cosplay potluck tomorrow, so I finished it up, then washed and dried it to get the wrinkles out. The last part was perhaps not entirely a good idea. I am not an amazing seamstress, and now the dress is starting to fray and has a few iffy seams. Still, it's wearable for tomorrow, and afterwards I can work on it or rip it apart and use it for a pattern for a new costume or something.

I spent much of the rest of the day writing in my (paper) journal at Panera Bread. (Yes, I was writing in my diary in a cafe. I was even listening to angsty indie rock on my iPod at the same time. I occasionally enjoy reveling in cliche.) I wrote something like 12 pages - granted, they're short pages, but that's still the most I've ever written in my journal at one time. I was musing on a certain ongoing situation, about which I am very much of two minds. I was hoping writing about it would give me some clarity, but I am just as indecisive about it as I was before. On the other hand, I'm a lot more calm about the whole thing, so it wasn't wasted effort at least.

It's almost midnight and I need to get some sleep so I can hit the ground running at work tomorrow - I'm still so behind, eep. So it's bedtime for me.

what's the costume, anyway?

Rakka (http://albums.mwolson.org/anime/haibane_renmei/rakka-chair_Lg.jpg) from Haibane Renmei. (For the record, sailor-style school uniform collars? More difficult to make than you would think.)

Are you coming to the potluck tonight?

looks cute, i hope someone gets a picture of you. i've always wanted to cosplay something, but i can never settle on something i want to do enough to really have a chance of starting it. plus, i'm not crafty at all. i wouldn't even know where to begin.

I need to check with Julie and see if she got any pictures...I meant to borrow the camera from work, but forgot.

Committing to a cosplay can indeed be pain, which is why I rarely do it. But it's fun occasionally. Can you think of any characters offhand who wear kimono? Because that is probably the easiest thing in the world to make.

Jin from samurai champloo? is that even a kimono?

I think it is? Or something like it. You'd have to make the pants too, but I doubt they would be particularly difficult. I actually once bought a book for patterns/instructions for making traditional Japanese clothing; most things turned out to be literally rectangles of cloth sewn together.

Haha, thanks! I saw the album - Twister definitely dominates the pictures. Thanks again for organizing it (as always ^_^), it was a lot of fun!
