End of the year meme? Why not?

Sooo, it's been two months since I've posted in LJ. I should try to post a little more often. And in that spirit, the traditional even though I didn't do it last year end-of-the-year meme.
1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Got my own apartment. Got a promotion. Dealt with a breakup. Called 911.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Last year I think I resolved to be less selfish and neurotic. Eh....not sure how I did on that. I am working on some resolutions for this year, but the only definite ones so far are to keep an accurate list of the new books I read and to read my back issues of Foreign Affairs.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
None, although I went to a lot of states that I'd never been to before, if that counts? (Indiana, Oregon, South Carolina, and California)
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More certainty.
7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I honestly don't know if there's a date in 2010 that will 'remain etched on my memory'.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I've had a thousand small victories this year but I can't think of a major triumph. Maybe getting promoted? But that was more of a gradual transition than an 'achievement'.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting involved in drama. Not involved-involved, but I need to be better at not gossiping, hypothesizing, and generally thinking that what my friends need is my curiosity/opinions. Hey, there's another goal for 2011!
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not particularly.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I actually had several big purchases this year. My new computer, my Kindle, my Droid 2 – I don't know how I'd choose between them! Oh, and a LOT of makeup. :)
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My friends and family, as always.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Hmm...I can't think of anyone offhand.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Aside from 'life expenses' (rent, food, gas, etc), probably makeup, haha.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Traveling (it was all for work, but hey, it was still fun!) Getting my own apartment – and my own kitchen! Seeing Matt, Brandon, and Shannon again for the first time in forever. Doing Amanda's makeup for her wedding.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
This is always a difficult one. Probably the entire The Family Jewels album by Marina and the Diamonds.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? A little bit sadder, actually.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer (savings account go!)
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Kept in touch with old friends, found new authors to read, slept.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Fret.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
I drove up to the DFC, of course. We went to my step-brother and step-sister-in-law's house for Christmas Eve, otherwise it was the usual quiet Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with Mom and Eric and Erica and Jeremy (her boyfriend/fiance). Then I drove back to P-town the day after Christmas for the PCM staff party.
22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
No.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
I am extremely torn between Doctor Who and Torchwood.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.
26. What was the best book you read?
This is an extremely difficult question for several reasons, not least of which is that it's hard to remember which books I read in 2010. Inevitably I'm biased towards books I read towards the end of the year since they are fresh in my mind. That being said, The Big Short is fantastic. It's been a long time since I've read a non-fiction book that kept me up past my bedtime because it was just that gripping.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Marina and the Diamonds.
28. What did you want and get?
An apartment of my own!
29. What did you want and not get?
Anything I might write here would be entirely selfish. So, nothing that I actually needed. :)
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Oh, that's tough. I don't know.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was twenty-five, and now I can't remember if I did anything. Maybe just dinner with friends?
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More courage on my part.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
“I don't need colors in my wardrobe if I wear color on my face” ;)
34. What kept you sane?
My friends. So very, very much.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
As always, I try to avoid schoolgirl crushes on celebrities. So, none.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
By default, the Maine gubernatorial election.
37. Who did you miss?
My 'gate friends.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't really meet that many new people in 2010. Probably work friends?
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
I don't know, I keep 'learning' the same lessons over and over again, it feels like. But that's okay – it's just life, I guess.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I know exactly what I want and who I wanna be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
