So I went into the international relations classes to talk about China today. It went pretty well overall, I think. In the first class I nearly started to cry because I asked people what they knew about the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdowns, and no one had ever heard of it. I kid you not...I asked what they knew about China and the most they could come up with was 'slanted eyes' and 'pointy hats'. So I did my best to drag them through the high points of 200 years of Chinese history, plus the bare bones of the China/Taiwan conflict. The second class had my sister in it, so there was at least one person who knew what I was talking about when I mentioned the Cultural Revolution and so on. Also, that class seemed a little more interested and engaged in the topic; when I asked them what came into their heads when I said China, responses ranged from 'rice' to 'communism' (about five people said that) to 'mulan' to 'lower production costs' (I'm not kidding, one girl actually said that). All in all, it was fun. Plus, I was proud that I timed my 'lecture' pretty well; I covered the points I wanted to in the time I had.
Then I came home and, because I hadn't slept last night (weird sleep patterns plus nervousness about what I was going to say) I decided to take a nap. I woke up at midnight to the lovely sounds of my sister throwing up. Did I mention she and her friends are doing a cleansing three-day fast? Whether it's coincidence or whether not eating somehow brought the bug out, E got violently sick tonight. She's sleeping now, thank goodness.
Have I mentioned that I'm addicted to Rocky Horror? Way, way, addicted. I know the songs far too well at this point. Which reminds me...I-Con is showing RHPS at some point. I'm actually considering going, because it's always fun to watch in a group and, as I said, I'm addicted. Would anyone be up to going with me?
Speaking of I-Con, I'm definitely making a mixed CD, and I'm still taking suggestions. I'm going to try not to repeat any songs from previous mixed CDs, but I've lost the playlists for the mixes I gave out at the Eva marathon, so I may accidentally use a song or two from them.
I feel so bad...I should be saving my money and everything, but I did an Amazon search and then couldn't help but buy them...so I have The Fionavar Tapestry coming. I just want to see if the trilogy is as compelling the second time I read it...yeah, that's it...
Okay, I've run out of things to babble about. Later, all!
