The events of my exciting weekend:

•Laundry. Lots of laundry.

•Shopping for necessity type things (cleaning supplies, lunches for the week, etc)

•Shopping for non-necessities (Death Note volume 5 and W Juliet 7-9. Volume 9 is the last volume currently released--though not for long as volume 10 is being released tomorrow, according to Viz).

•Cleaning my room and bathroom.

•Getting my first ever professional manicure. It was fun, even though the manicurist had an accent and kept asking me things so quickly I couldn't understand her. I'd look quizzical, she'd repeat herself, and I still wouldn't understand but would just give up and nod. I got a french tip manicure, which I've always liked (so classic! so subtle!)

•Going to see 'Yang Ban Xi', a movie about the 8 model operas in Cultural Revolution era China (during the Cultural Revolution, these eight politically correct operas were the only allowed theater or film in China--they were written under the direct supervision of Mme. Mao). I liked it, although it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I was thinking it would be a straight documentary, but it was something very different...what, I can't exactly say, except that the idea articulated at the end of 'art doesn't actually reflect real life, and that's good because it allows people to forget the pain of reality' was one of the main themes of the entire movie. I also have to put in a good word for the random dance numbers. I do recommend the movie, although you'll probably want to know something about recent Chinese history beforehand.

•Reading most of 'Tigana'. *swoons* I'm so glad I succumbed to temptation and bought this, even if it won't fit on my shelves. Oh, and from the back cover (I think this explains a lot): "Previous to [writing the Fionavar Tapestry], Kay was retained by the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien to work with Christopher Tolkien in the editorial construction of the posthumously published 'The Silmarillion' "

That's about it. Um, I *will* fill you guys in on my mom's new 'boyfriend' at some point, but I continue to be too lazy to actually sum up my impression of him. Let me just say this....trading thoughts on Studio Ghibli films with my mom's boyfriend=quite surreal.

I think it's about time for bed; another work week is staring me in the face *sigh* On the other hand, next weekend is going to be a lot of fun! Anyway, later, all.
