amatyultare: (bookworm glee)
While my previous post of DOOM re: Brisingr may have given the impression that I was doing nothing but lounging around reading, honestly, I have been looking for a job and so forth.

And.....I have one! Yay! It's in Portland (sorry, Boston-voting people, but it was so much more manageable to get down there for interviews, etc). I'm the new Office Manager for Northeast Community Care, a Medicare Advantage vendor (think health insurance, but through Medicare - yeah, it's sort of confusing). Frankly, managing an office sounds completely doable after managing Nutcracker (and producing it, and making costumes, and doing publicity, and let's not forget classes...). It'll be a learning process, of course, but I'm confident.

This is the job I had an interview for last week; I'm really excited about it because the other people in the office seem to really care about providing good service and FIXING things immediately when something goes wrong. My 'second interview' was me coming down and helping out with their big semi-annual info presentation. It absolutely thrilled me because all of the 'customers' were happy with the company, and when there was a problem (a deaf woman had requested an interpreter but the request hadn't been passed to the appropriate people), they immediately scheduled a separate presentation JUST FOR HER in her home with an interpreter. I kept thinking 'if this were Microdyne....'.

(Also, in my search for business-casual clothes, I found a button-down blouse that actually fits me properly without looking like a tent. Exciting!)

I found people renting a house in P-town who needed a housemate; I'm moving in tomorrow and starting my job Monday. So I spent today packing. ^_^ It's weird because I've been basically hanging around all month looking online for a job, and now everything's happening at once.

Warning: my computer is not working so well at the moment. I've been borrowing my mom's laptop while I was home, but obviously that's not practical when I'm in P-town. I want to get my computer fixed ASAP but until then, I won't be around much online...I'm going to try to get over my dislike of telephones (everyone on my f-list who's worked a call center knows exactly what I'm talking about) and call some people to whom I owe calls. So yeah, feel free to call my cell phone.

In other news, Eric has been involved with a play through the local theater group, and performances started this week. It's a comedy called 'Sylvia' about a guy who deals with a midlife crisis by getting a dog named Sylvia (much to his wife's dismay). Eric actually plays the dog-owner, which was difficult for him because he had a LOT of lines to learn and the rehearsal period was only about a month, but he managed. They've done a good job with it and it's quite funny.

Back to convincing myself that it's *not practical* to take all of my books with me (immediately, at least; the plus side of moving someplace only a few hours away is that I can move on the installment plan. On the other hand, I buy books because I like having books around me that I can pick up and read whenever I would like.) Maybe I'll distract myself by jumping on Facebook for the first time in forever.
