We’ve reached Part Four, the final section of our 31 Days of Goal-Setting challenge! This section is all about getting into the nitty-gritty of our plans. But remember, it will all be based on what we’ve figured out about what we want to do in our lifetimes and who we want to be.

Today’s question is: Brainstorm - where do you want to be in five years? What do you want to have accomplished?

Why five years? I like it as an interval. It’s long enough to give you plenty of time to accomplish things and to feel the scope of potential, but it still brings you down to earth a bit after dreaming about goals you’ll achieve by the time you’re 100.

At the end of December 2020, you’ll be looking back over your achievements in the last few years. What do you want to have achieved?

A few considerations:
  • Make these goals as SMART as you can. They automatically are time-bound since you’re setting a time limit of five years from now. Try to also make them specific, measurable, actionable, and realistic/relevant.
  • Think about all of the goal areas that we talked about back in Part Two. You’ll probably have goals for moving forward in all areas of your life.
  • Look carefully at your “who you want to be” and “dream goals” lists. Your five-year plan should directly relate to them - but more about that tomorrow.
