So I didn't expect that I'd be able to vote today. I hadn't switched my registration/residence to Portland, and I had forgotten to request an absentee ballot.

But I didn't remember one thing, which my coworkers helpfully reminded me of today. Maine's standards for voting registration are ridiculously lax.

After work today, I went to the polling place nearest to my house. I told them I needed to fill out a new registration card to update my address, and showed them my Maine driver's license and an 'electronic pay stub' from work. Now, no offense to my company, but the electronic pay stub is very much less than official-looking. I could probably make something that looks like it in about fifteen minutes in Photoshop, and I'm not even good at Photoshop. But it had my name and a Portland address, and that's all that mattered. They checked it, had me fill out a new card, and gave me a ballot. ^_^

This meant that I also got to vote on Portland town issues, except I don't know anything about Portland town issues. So I guessed randomly. Yay democracy? I'm such a bad citizen. *sigh*

And now, I return to my usual blatherings about NaNoWriMo.

Word count as of today: 14,037. Woo-hoo! My goal for tonight was actually to reach 15,000 but I was purposefully aiming high so I'm reasonably pleased.

The plot of my story, and keep in mind that I'm using 'plot' in its very loosest sense....this is something [livejournal.com profile] deliriumdriver asked about. I choose 'mainstream fiction' as my genre as it's basically about wacky college hijinks, but with some random urban fantasy elements involved as well.

Tessa is my heroine, a freshman education major (with a possible minor in Poli Sci) going to school in a mythical liberal arts university in southern Maine. Her roommate is Brianna, an English major, aspiring writer, and huge bookworm. After a mutual all-nighter in the middle of their first semester, Tessa and Brianna are trying to get to sleep when Brianna confesses something:

She's clairvoyant. And an orc.

Tessa is still trying to deal with that particular revelation when second semester classes start and Brianna declares that their mild-mannered Business Culture professor (an abstract math professor who basically spends every class shouting combinations of business buzzwords in an excited fashion) is a twisted genius with an Evil Plot (which they, of course, need to thwart). Unfortunately, she doesn't know what that Evil Plot might be....

And now, to bed.

Hurray! Thanks for sharing. (See how much I was not joking when I said I'd be living vicariously through you for this?) It sounds very fun, and I'm massively impressed at the rate you are cracking out words!

Also, I love the icon.

That's a lot of words. :p And whoo orc!

I'm glad Canada doesn't have voter registration at ALL. (You just have to show enough ID to get photo, signature and address. So a driver's license takes care of that. I had to use my health card and my lease. Last year's lease. Which has a different name than my health card. :p)

That sounds really interesting and cool! I want to see some when you're done.

I need to write a funny story. Maybe today. Hmm... All of mine are too horrific.

Good luck :)
