So, Eclipse. I can't decide whether I actually thought it was a decent movie, or if I was just impressed at how huge an improvement over the book it is.
cleolinda, as usual, has said pretty much everything that we're all thinking, so go just read that if you want to know what I thought about the movie.
But in all seriousness, guys, it's pretty entertaining. I know I've ranted - extensively - about this series, but I promise, there are actual fight scenes and everything.
Meanwhile, Avatar comes out this weekend...it currently has an 8% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and Roger Ebert started his review with the following words:
"The Last Airbender" is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that something should have gone right. Not here. It puts a nail in the coffin of low-rent 3D, but it will need a lot more coffins than that.
He gave it half a star. Combine that with the racefail thing and...maybe I won't be going to see that one after all. (Edit: Here's probably my favorite review of the movie so far. Trust me, read it.)
Tomorrow's Friday - why do four-day weeks always feel more than a day shorter than five-day weeks? Weird. Anyway, off to finish my laundry and then to bed.

Date: 2010-07-02 12:14 pm (UTC)The opening of the review was genuinely funny, though.
You giggled at The Happening. You snorted at The Village. But now, for the first time ever, former indie auteur M. Night Shyamalan has set out to make a gonzo comedy on purpose, with The Last Airbender.
I just wish it had kept up with the wit!

Date: 2010-07-02 03:26 pm (UTC)And maybe I got the io9 review confused with another one. Who knows? I was reading one a while back that was brilliant, and then they started talkin' smut and it totally destroyed the writer's credibility for me. Because I'm like that.

Date: 2010-07-03 03:01 am (UTC)We saw it tonight with Aaron and Yoi, then came home to watch the series a bit and reflect... The Last Airbender wasn't Transformers-bad in my opinion. I mean, it was pretty bad, but I haven't gouged my eyes out yet. It might be worth buying if it one day makes it to the $2 bin.
ANYWAY! Porter? You gonna be there?
