(no subject)
Sep. 7th, 2006 01:00 pmI have ten minutes before class, and I can't believe I'm even paying enough attention to this to write about it, but....
Okay, for anyone who doesn't use Facebook, they just introduced a new feature called a Newsfeed where every single thing that all of your friends do, from writing a note to someone to adding a movie to their favorites list, is listed in chronological order with down-the-the-minute time stamps. And no, you can't turn it off. A lot of people find this kind of creepy in a 'sure you could be a stalker through Facebook if you wanted to but now you don't have a choice!' way. I understand that, especially since some of the information wasn't necessarily available to you unless you really searched (i.e. adding tags to pictures, writing on other people's walls, etc). So people are protesting to Facebook. Okay.
But. I can't be the only person to find it ludicrous that people are seriously comparing Facebook adding an unpopular feature to the anti-war protests and calling it a revolution. It's FACEBOOK, people. This is not a military draft. If you really feel it's all that invasive, then stop using it.
And we're not talking about a whole lot of strenuous activity here--most of the people 'protesting' are doing so by joining an anti-newsfeed group on Facebook, which takes about 20 seconds and two mouse clicks. Excuse me if I am underwhelmed by the level of dedication demonstrated.
Class time. Later, all!
