I haven't posted anything about myself in two weeks. I think it's time.
Third week of classes, wow. Chinese 303 (which I'm auditing if anyone has forgotten ^.^) is great, particularly as Crespi's teaching style is very....um....engaging (I keep remembering the class he pulled out a picture of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake and asked if they were married). And who doesn't like a teacher who asks the class to translate, for a quiz, the sentence 'I just *need* to beat that pitiful panda to death!'.
My two poli sci classes are interesting. International Institutions is feeling kind of fragmented but the professor keeps saying we're still in 'introduction mode' so we shall see. This is the same professor who assigned us readings from a book that hasn't yet been published; at first she was saying that it would be published in the first week or two of the semester but she's given up on it and is having the bookstore get a different book on the same subject. The seminar on American Foreign Policy continues to be more theory-driven than historical/factual, which I didn't think I would like, but honestly I find it fascinating. There has been more lecturing than in your standard seminar, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. Amusingly enough, two of the four other people in my seminar are also in my International Institutions class. It's a small IR world....
Biology is going well....I guess it's just really strange for me to take a science class. My first lab was Monday--we went out to the old ski hill and followed bees around to see if they would stick with one type of flower to pollinate or choose flowers at random. (They generally stuck with the same type of flower).
Social life? What's that? No, seriously, I hang out with the other townhouse-rs most of the time. This is how...my shameful secret....I became addicted to Project Runway. It's just an interesting concept--reality TV with people actually doing something semi-productive--and reminds me of ParaKiss (except without the sex). I remember reading Answerman's argument that the Parakiss anime would fit better on Bravo than on CN or other 'anime showing channels' and now I see what he means.
I should probably get some homework done. Later, all!
