Ah, Mondays. There's nothing like being cursed at first thing in the morning to bring a song to the heart...actually, at this point, things like that mostly amuse me. I only really get upset when I feel bad for the person (which does not include, say, people who wait 14 months before contesting a $90 charge on their account or people who insist that they have a nonexistant version of an OS on their computer...)
I got Kiki’s Delivery Serivce from Netflix and watched it this weekend, as well as House of Flying Daggers. HFD was good, of course--well, it’s a Zhang Yimou film. Although, did the Chinese even use horses for military/police purposes before the Mongol invasion? *looks at K and R expectantly* Of course I had to look up that it was taking place during the Tang dynasty. I know that dynasty was famous for *something*... Gah, it’s been too long since Core China. And Kiki? Extremely cute, extremely well-done in that Miyazaki way. Of course there was no dramatic tension at all (what you could consider the major ‘plot’ happens in the last 15 minutes), but hey, it’s Miyazaki. Anyway, next up is Mahoromatic season two (yeah, I know it’s not supposed to be as good as season one, but I wanna see it!). Yeah anime!
And of course, it’s another Monday, so we have part two of Shocking Stories from Customer Service: True or False?!?
First, last week’s answer: congratulations to all of you who answered ‘True’ (everyone who commented, basically). I don’t know how they do it, but I got another two callers today who realized thirty or forty seconds into the call that I was not a recording.
This week’s story, true or false? You decide! (I am getting way too into this...) Two short items, actually.
1. Customers calling in regularly ask to speak to Michael Dell.
2. Dell customer service representatives (that’s me!) are not allowed to make outbound phone calls; for cost and security reasons we’re only allowed to take calls coming in. We also do not have our own extension numbers, making us at least as individually unreachable as the President.
Also, NB: REQUEST FOR INFORMATION. My sister has to be at Sarah Lawrence (about half an hour north of NYC) on the 27th. First years at Sarah Lawrence are not allowed to drive and Mom’s semester starts the week before that so she can’t bring E down, so I have been drafted. With that in mind--if I dropped by Colgate on the 27th or 28th on my way back to Maine, who would be there and at what time? I can always help people unload their cars, unpack, etc....anyway, all ‘Gate people who reads this, please comment!
I’m so not getting enough sleep during the week...okay, I’ll quickly check Nerudia, take a shower, and go to sleep. Later, all!

Date: 2005-08-16 03:29 am (UTC)and I know I will be there the 28th... and Dahlia will be there both days... I may be there the 27th but it all depends on when my grandfathers east coast memorial service is on the 27th. But i know I want to see you!

Date: 2005-08-16 04:21 am (UTC)2. I know you have no extension, but I also know that Dell Online Sales Support CAN make outbound calls, because they called Wachovia for me once. Hmmm...would you have the same rules as them? *suspicious look* I'm going to say true because I do know you have no extension, but I'm not totally sure on the second part.
Let's see, Asian history nerd time. The Chinese used horses in their militaries since the time of the Xiong Nu invasions--they saw how effective the steppe peoples were with them. Gosh, that was around 200-300 B.C., during the Warring States period (does every Asian nation HAVE to have a Warring States period to be considered cool?). Also, the Tang Dynasty was known for being very extravagant and opulent. There was a lot of focus on fashion and art and stuff, I think.
*whisper* I know more about individual Chinese Dynasties than I do about Japanese ones. I think that makes me a bad samurai.
